Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Chardonnay 2020

Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Chardonnay is an early-drinking Margaret River white.

Seven separate estate blocks went into this wine, most of them planted to Gin Gin clone material, with the aim of a more fruit-forward companion to the estate bottling. Fruit was pressed and settled overnight, then fermented partly in stainless steel and partly in French oak barrels. Six months in puncheons followed, with monthly stirring for texture, and the blended wine sat on light lees in tank until bottling in December 2020. The 2020 vintage was a strong one across Margaret River, warm and dry early with a milder January that let flavour build steadily.

Just-ripe orchard fruit, a squeeze of lemon and a pithy, refreshing finish. Serve at 10-12 degrees. Fish and chips, a chicken caesar or a plate of prosciutto and melon will do nicely, and it is an easy wine to keep in the fridge door.
