Voyager Estate Project Nouveau Rouge 2021

Voyager Estate Project Nouveau Rouge is a light-bodied organic red blend from Margaret River.

This release widens the net: 79 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon, 14 per cent Malbec, 4 per cent Cabernet Franc and 3 per cent Merlot, drawn from U4 block for clone 337 Cabernet, Broadvale Block 1 for Malbec and Weightmans Block 7 for M214 Cabernet Franc. All three sites are organically farmed and crop low on stony, gravelly ground. Layering was the method again, 30 per cent whole bunches between destemmed fruit, with just five days on skins to keep tannin to a whisper. Fermentation finished in stainless steel, three months on light lees followed, and bottling happened unfined in July 2021.

Raspberry, redcurrant and dried herb, light on its feet and finishing dry and a little peppery. Serve it at 14 degrees, straight from the fridge in summer. Good with cured meats, grilled sardines, or a simple tomato and basil pasta.
