Voyager Estate Project Nouveau Rouge 2022

Voyager Estate Project Nouveau Rouge is a light red blend of six varieties from Margaret River.

Young vines and newer clones across the estate make up this blend, which lands at 63 per cent Cabernet, 11 per cent Tempranillo, 10 per cent Malbec, 7 per cent Cabernet Franc, 7 per cent Merlot and 2 per cent Grenache. The fermenter was layered with 30 per cent whole bunches between destemmed berries, and the cap was wet just once a day for five days so tannin stayed largely in the skins where it began. After pressing, fermentation finished in stainless steel and the wine spent three months on light lees, then a light rack and unfined bottling in July 2022.

Cranberry, pomegranate and a twist of black pepper, with barely any tannin to slow it down. Serve it cold, 13-14 degrees. It is the wine for a share plate afternoon: jamon, olives, grilled prawns, or a sausage off the grill.
