Description
Warre's Warrior is a reserve Port from the Douro Valley in northern Portugal, and one of the oldest continuously shipped wine brands anywhere in the world.
Warre's was established in 1670 and was the first British house to enter the Douro trade; it has been in the hands of the Symington family for generations. Warrior has been shipped under that name since the eighteenth century, which gives it a fair claim to being the oldest Port brand still in commerce. It is a reserve ruby, drawn from traditional Douro varieties such as Touriga Nacional and Tinta Barroca grown on the steep schist terraces of the upper valley. Fortification with grape spirit halts fermentation partway, leaving natural sweetness, and the blend is then matured in large wooden vats before bottling, so it arrives ready to pour.
Serve lightly chilled at around 16 degrees with hard cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate; once opened it will hold for several weeks.
