Weinbach Alsace Colette Riesling 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Weinbach Alsace Cuvée Colette Riesling comes from 50- to 60-year-old vines in the Bonnes Terres sector at the foot of the Schlossberg slope, in magnum.

Domaine Weinbach farms from the Clos des Capucins at Kaysersberg and is one of the standard-bearers for biodynamic viticulture in Alsace. The Colette cuvée honours Colette Faller, mother of Catherine and one of the great figures of the region, who died in 2015. The fruit comes from Bonnes Terres, lower on the Schlossberg where the soils are deeper and sandier, and it tends to be picked a little later than the grand cru fruit above. Although the parcel is entirely within Schlossberg, some vines fall outside the grand cru boundary, which is why the wine cannot carry that designation; the domaine has applied for premier cru status. The wine was raised fourteen months in old oak casks, giving a generous but stony texture with tingling minerality and a mouth-watering close.

Excellent now and capable of ten to fifteen years, particularly in magnum; serve at 10–12°C with roast pork, smoked trout or a tarte flambée.
