Description
Sainte Catherine is Weinbach's dry Riesling from five plots of sixty-year-old vines at the heart of the Schlossberg slope.
The Grand Cru Schlossberg rises north of Kaysersberg on granite, and the Faller family, the hill's largest landowners, bottle its wines by vine age and altitude. This cuvée comes from the middle of the slope, where sun exposure and mineral-rich granitic soils give a particularly deep and layered dry Riesling. It takes its name from the feast of Sainte Catherine on 25 November: early vintages were picked on or around that date, drawing opulence and complexity from the Alsace late autumn, though today the harvest can fall as much as a month earlier. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Winemaking is identical to the standard Schlossberg bottling, but the terroir shows with more intensity, concentration and mineral resonance. The wine was raised for fourteen months in the domaine's old oval casks.
Fine now and capable of twenty years or more. Serve at 10 to 12°C with roast pork, grilled langoustines or a mature Comté.
