Description

Domaine Weinbach's Furstentum Gewurztraminer comes from a steep grand cru limestone slope above Kientzheim, offered here as a museum release with cellar age.

Furstentum is a grand cru shared between the villages of Kientzheim and Sigolsheim, rising steeply on shallow, stony limestone with a south to south-westerly aspect. The site is warm and drains hard, which suits Gewürztraminer: it ripens fully but keeps a firm mineral spine that stops the variety's natural opulence from turning heavy. Domaine Weinbach is based at the Clos des Capucins in Kientzheim, a walled property once farmed by Capuchin monks and run for decades by the Faller family, who work their vineyards biodynamically and pick in successive passes by hand. Fermentation is slow, with indigenous yeasts in large old oak foudres, and the wine is bottled without fining or heavy handling. Museum releases of this cuvée have been held in the domaine's own cellar since bottling.

Mature and ready. Serve at 10–12°C with Munster cheese, a spiced duck curry or seared foie gras.
