Weingut Dr. H. Thanisch Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese Auction Wine is a rare, selectively picked lot from Berncasteler Doctor, offered in the estate's traditional auction-wine style.

Berncasteler Doctor covers only a few hectares of steep, south-facing slate directly above the town of Bernkastel and has been prized as one of the Mosel's finest sites since the nineteenth century, historically commanding some of the highest prices of any vineyard at the region's Trier wine auctions. Weingut Dr. H. Thanisch has been part-owner of this famous vineyard since Dr. Hugo Thanisch acquired holdings there in the 1880s, and the family has farmed it ever since as part of a Mosel winegrowing history stretching back generations. The vines are tended by hand on slopes too steep for machinery, in soils of weathered Devonian slate that give the estate's wines their distinctive minerality. Auction wines such as this one are drawn from the estate's most exceptional parcels and offered in the same tradition as the historic Mosel wine auctions of the past.

As a Spätlese-level selection reserved for auction, it represents a step above the estate's standard bottlings, made in limited quantity from the vineyard's most sought-after fruit.
