Description
West Cape Howe Cape to Cape Cabernet Merlot is a generous, fruit-forward red from Western Australia with classic Cabernet savouriness.
Based in Mount Barker, the winery named itself after the wild southern headland near Denmark, and its Cape to Cape wines are built around approachable fruit from the state's south-west. In this blend Cabernet Sauvignon provides the frame along with herbal, cedary notes, and Merlot fills out the palate with mulberry and plum. Expect blackcurrant, mulberry and plum with hints of cedar and graphite, and a spell in French oak rounds everything out. Fine, chewy tannins and fresh acidity keep the sweet dark fruit in balance.
At the table, think slow-cooked lamb shanks, a pepperoni pizza or grilled sausages with onion gravy. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees; it is drinking nicely young and will hold for a few years.
