West Cape Howe King Billy Chardonnay 2024

West Cape Howe King Billy Chardonnay is a mouth-filling, saline Great Southern Chardonnay with citrus and toasty oak.

The cool, maritime climate of the Great Southern suits Chardonnay that balances richness with tension, and this is one of the more serious whites from the Mount Barker-based producer. It shows a coastal, briny side, with oyster shell and sea spray alongside white nectarine, pink grapefruit and Tahitian lime, while toasty oak adds vanilla, nougat and gingernut. The palate is mouth-filling, with grapefruit, white stone fruit, preserved lemon, cashew and lemon curd, and a salty line running through the finish.

Serve chilled, not too cold, with grilled snapper, scallops in brown butter or roast pork. It will develop further with a few years in bottle.
