West Cape Howe Regional Range Frankland River Shiraz 2022

West Cape Howe Regional Range Frankland River Shiraz is a spicy, dark-fruited Shiraz from one of Western Australia's finest inland regions.

Frankland River lies in the north-west of the Great Southern, far enough from the coast for warm days, cool nights and a long, even ripening season, and its Shiraz is prized for spice and structure. The producer draws fruit from the district alongside its Mount Barker base, and the Regional Range is designed to show off individual places. The 2022 is deep crimson, with lifted spice, dark ripe plum, liquorice and star anise. Careful oak handling sits neatly with the plummy fruit, and lightly drying tannins give length and a good finish.

Approachable now, it also has the structure to reward a few years of cellaring. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with slow-roasted lamb, beef ribs or a hearty lentil and sausage casserole.
