West Cape Howe Regional Range Frankland River Shiraz 2024

West Cape Howe Regional Range Frankland River Shiraz is a rich, oak-framed Shiraz with dark fruit and savoury Frankland River character.

The red-dirt vineyards of Frankland River, in the north-west corner of the Great Southern, produce Shiraz with power, spice and firm grip, and this Regional Range release leans into that. The 2024 carries a fair amount of oak, which the winemakers say simply works: concentrated black fruit, cherry compote and late-picked plum are layered with mocha, vanilla and cacao, plus liquorice, olive brine and graphite. It is rich and mouth-filling, with chewy, chalky tannins and a salty line of acidity that keeps it fresh, and white pepper and bush herbs through the finish.

This is a wine for hearty food. Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees after some time in a decanter, then pair it with chargrilled rib-eye, braised beef cheeks or a smoky barbecue platter. It should cellar well for several years.
