West Cape Howe Regional Range Tempranillo 2023

West Cape Howe Regional Range Tempranillo is a plush, medium-bodied Frankland River Tempranillo with cherry and dark fruit.

Spain's great red grape has proven a good fit for Frankland River in the Great Southern, where the growing season builds both ripe fruit and savoury depth. This release from the Mount Barker-based producer is purple in the glass, with luscious cherry, dark chocolate and an earthy note the winemakers liken to the local coffee rock. It is full of life, with red and dark fruit, blackcurrant, dark cherry and brambly berries and a touch of star anise, while fine, soft tannins meet fresh acidity for a chewy, lingering finish.

Serve at around 15 to 17 degrees with chorizo, paella, lamb skewers or a spread of tapas. Drink over the next few years.
