Wickhams Road Yarra Valley Cabernet Franc 2022

Wickhams Road Yarra Valley Cabernet Franc is a medium-bodied Cabernet Franc from a well-established duplex clay vineyard.

Cabernet Franc is a recent addition to this range, and the source is an established site on duplex clay south of the Yea Valley. Franco d'Anna manages 130 acres of vines with four full-time staff and still finds room to experiment, which is how this wine came about. Fermentation was slow in old oak with a small whole-berry portion, and the wine matured seventeen months before bottling. He says he went in without a style in mind, though he is pleased by the resemblance to a young Chinon, calling it bright and youthful with plenty of bounce.

Raspberry, capsicum leaf and crushed violets, medium-bodied with sappy tannin and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 15 degrees, or cool it slightly in warm weather. Roast lamb, grilled sausages or a goat's cheese and beetroot salad.
