Wickhams Road Yea Valley Chardonnay 2023

Wickhams Road Yea Valley Chardonnay is a Chardonnay from a duplex clay site near Yea, north of the Yarra Valley.

The source is the same well-established vineyard behind the Cabernet Franc, on duplex clay a little south of the Yea Valley, a site with a reputation for consistently good fruit. When a parcel became available the Hoddles Creek team took it without hesitating. Fruit was destemmed and lightly pressed to tank, and after a few days settling a portion of the juice went to oak to ferment on full solids. The wine then spent eleven months on lees before bottling, which is a longer élevage than you would expect at this price.

Yellow peach, lemon curd and a nutty, leesy note, textured in the middle with a fresh, dry finish. Serve at 11 degrees. Roast chicken, grilled chicken thighs with lemon or a mushroom and leek tart.
