Windows Estate Petit Lot Chardonnay 2022

Windows Estate Petit Lot Chardonnay is a certified organic white from southern Margaret River.

Violette's and Lucas's blocks, both planted in 2006, are the mineral end of this property, sitting on karri loam over clay and granite. Four clones grow there, three Dijon selections plus Gingin. Half of Violette's runs north-south and gives the powerful fruit in the blend; the other half runs east-west, shaded by the tree line, and gives something quieter. Lucas's contributes subtler stone fruit and depth. Each clone was picked and handled separately, whole-bunch pressed to French barriques, half of them new, for fermentation and eleven months of maturation, with half the volume taken through malolactic conversion.

Aromas of white peach, lemon oil and toasted nut, then a fleshy, concentrated palate with a long, structured finish. Serve at 12 degrees in a large glass. It rewards richer food: roast pork, crayfish with butter, or a chicken pie.
