Windows Estate Petit Lot La Terre 2022

Windows Estate Petit Lot La Terre is a skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc from Margaret River.

This was called Fume Blanc until recently; the new name suits it better. Fruit comes off the Home Block, where rows run north to south so the canopy shades the fruit and the vines hold onto acidity and mineral character. Soils are gravelly loam over clay, naturally high in minerals. Picking happened in the cool of early morning, and the fruit fermented on skins for a fortnight before a gentle press to a mix of clay vessels and seasoned French barriques for eleven months. The result has more in common with Chardonnay than with the usual run of Sauvignon Blanc.

Preserved lemon, dried herb and a faint bitter grip from the skins, with weight through the middle and a long, savoury close. Serve at 12-13 degrees. Try it with roast chicken, grilled octopus, or a sheep's milk cheese.
