Windows Estate Petit Lot Syrah 2022

Windows Estate Petit Lot Syrah is a fragrant red from the estate's vineyard in southern Margaret River.

The house style for this variety has been consistent for years: perfume and refinement in front of weight. Good drainage from loam over gravel helps, as does careful, sympathetic pruning and canopy work, which is where most of the effort goes. A small proportion of whole bunches was included in the ferment, along with a dash of Viognier picked from the eastern edge of the Home Block, co-fermented for extra lift. After a basket pressing, the wine matured in French oak barrels for twelve months before bottling. Margaret River grows very little of this kind.

Red plum, dried flowers and white pepper, with sinewy tannin and a savoury, drawn-out finish. Fifteen to sixteen degrees, and a light chill does no harm. Serve with roast duck, spiced lamb skewers, or grilled radicchio and anchovy.
