Wine & Soul Pintas Vintage Port 375ml 2019

Wine & Soul Pintas Vintage Port is a fortified red from century-old field-blend vines in the Douro, here in a half bottle.

Planted a century or so ago, the old vines in the Vale de Mendiz above Pinhão mix a dozen or more native varieties in one plot, picked together in the traditional way. That mix is where much of the complexity comes from. Jorge Serôdio Borges and Sandra Tavares da Silva have the fruit trodden by foot in granite lagares and fortified part-way through fermentation, leaving sweetness and plenty of structure. Only a short time in cask follows, then it ages in bottle and throws a deposit.

Sweet and dense, with black fruit, spice and firm tannins. Decant it off the sediment and pour at 15-17°C with blue cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate; the 375ml size matures a little faster and suits a smaller table.
