Wine & Soul Ruby Reserva Port NV

Wine & Soul Ruby Reserva Port is a sweet, fruit-rich fortified red from traditional Douro varieties in northern Portugal.

Near-vertical schist terraces above the river force the vines to root deep and give small, thick-skinned berries. Sandra Tavares da Silva and her husband Jorge Serôdio Borges, based in the Vale de Mendiz near Pinhão, are better known abroad for table wines but have deep roots in Port. Here the fruit ferments on skins with vigorous extraction and is fortified partway through. A few years in large vats and older casks lets it knit while keeping deep colour and fresh fruit.

Rich and sweet but not heavy, with dark berries and a warming finish. Serve it slightly cool, 14-16°C, after dinner or with dark chocolate, blue cheese or walnuts; an open bottle keeps for several weeks.
