Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz is a generous, fruit-driven McLaren Vale Shiraz made for everyday enjoyment.

The name nods to the trebuchet that stands in the winery grounds, a reminder of the sense of fun Greg Trott brought to the estate when he revived it in 1969. Fruit comes from vineyards around McLaren Vale, where warm days, cooling breezes off Gulf St Vincent and a patchwork of soils produce Shiraz with ripe fruit and soft structure. The winemaking keeps the fruit up front: plum, mulberry and blackberry sit alongside dried herbs and a touch of star anise, with fine, polished tannins keeping it in shape. At 14.5% alcohol it has the warmth and depth expected of the region without feeling heavy.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It's a natural match for barbecued sausages, lamb chops, pizza or a slow-cooked beef ragù, and it drinks well now with a few years of cellaring potential.
