Wirra Wirra Church Block Grenache Shiraz 2025

Wirra Wirra Church Block Grenache Shiraz is a supple, red-fruited blend from McLaren Vale in the long-running Church Block family.

The Wirra Wirra estate dates back to 1894 and was restored in 1969 by Greg Trott, whose Church Block blend became a fixture on Australian tables from 1972. This Grenache Shiraz version leans on McLaren Vale Grenache for perfume, raspberry and a silky texture, with Shiraz filling out the palate. The region's sea breezes and range of soils, from sand to ironstone and clay, suit both varieties well. The 2025 is bright and medium-bodied, with thyme, blueberry and raspberry over a dusting of cinnamon, a hint of baked custard, and fine, sandy tannins holding the fruit together.

Serve slightly cool, at around 15 to 16 degrees, and pour it alongside pulled pork, spiced lamb shoulder, tomato-based pasta or a cheese board. Drink it over the next few years for its fresh fruit.
