Wirra Wirra House Block Shiraz 2022

Wirra Wirra House Block Shiraz is a structured yet elegant McLaren Vale Shiraz from the upper tier of Wirra Wirra's range.

Wirra Wirra's roots go back to 1894, when Robert Strangways Wigley planted vines at McLaren Vale; after decades of neglect the property was restored by Greg Trott from 1969. The region's Mediterranean climate and ancient, varied soils have made its Shiraz famous, and this wine leans towards the aromatic, finely built end of the spectrum. The 2022 has lifted warm spice, cardamom and star anise, with milk chocolate, dried herbs and a touch of lavender and wisteria. The palate carries dark plum and blackberry on an energetic line, with powdery tannins and fruit well integrated through a long, seamless finish.

Give it a decant and serve at around 17 to 18 degrees. Rare roast beef, venison, lamb shanks or aged cheddar are all good companions, and it will reward some years in the cellar.
