Wirra Wirra The Absconder Grenache 2024

Wirra Wirra The Absconder Grenache is a perfumed, seamless McLaren Vale Grenache from the top of Wirra Wirra's range.

McLaren Vale's old Grenache vines, many grown as bush vines on sandy soils, produce some of Australia's most fragrant and finely textured examples of the variety, and this wine draws on that heritage. Wirra Wirra, founded in 1894 and revived by Greg Trott in 1969, has made Grenache a central part of its identity. The 2024 is floral and perfumed, with black cherry, cherry blossom and lavender alongside dried oregano, earthy notes and a touch of baking spice. Red plum and raspberry fill the palate, with fine-grained, svelte tannins and a mouth-coating texture that carry to an elegant finish.

Serve at around 16 degrees. Try it with Peking duck, lamb loin, mushroom and thyme pie or a charcuterie board. It drinks beautifully now and has the balance to age for a number of years.
