Wirra Wirra Woodhenge McLaren Vale Shiraz 2023

Wirra Wirra Woodhenge McLaren Vale Shiraz is a rich, full-bodied Shiraz from the upper end of Wirra Wirra's red range.

Woodhenge takes its name from a landmark at the winery, one of the quirky touches that recall Greg Trott, who revived the 1894 estate in 1969. It is made from McLaren Vale Shiraz selected for concentration and depth, with oak adding structure and savoury complexity. The region's warm Mediterranean climate and old soils give Shiraz its trademark generosity. The 2023 shows satsuma plum, blackberry, polished leather and chargrilled meat on the nose with nutmeg, milk chocolate and clove, then plush dark plum, earth and dark chocolate on the palate, with silky tannins and savoury oak.

Decant before serving at around 17 to 18 degrees. It's built for hearty food: beef brisket, lamb shanks, venison sausages or a rich ragù, and it will cellar well for many years.
