Wolfburn Batch 375 Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Wolfburn Batch 375 is a small-batch single malt Scotch whisky, with fewer than 300 bottles allocated to Australia.

Third in the numbered series, this bottling was drawn from unpeated spirit and aged about four years across two cask types: half-size first-fill bourbon barrels originally made for Woodford Reserve in Kentucky, and second-fill Oloroso sherry hogsheads. Small casks work fast, and four years in these gives more than the number suggests. The distillery itself stands at Thurso in Caithness, the northernmost on the Scottish mainland, rebuilt in 2013 alongside the remains of a nineteenth-century original, and it bottles without chill filtration or added colour.

Honey, vanilla and baked apple with a dry, nutty finish from the sherry wood. Serve neat, no ice, with water on the side. It is a good introduction to the series and sits well with shortbread or a piece of aged Gouda.
