Wolfburn Batch 458 Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Wolfburn Batch 458 is the seventh release in the distillery's numbered small-batch series of single malt Scotch.

The number is a warehouse address: warehouse 4, stow 58, where these barrels sat. The series has built a reputation on good cask buying: 100-litre first-fill bourbon casks originally bound for Buffalo Trace or Woodford Reserve, Oloroso sherry hogsheads at both first and second fill, and Madeira barrels at first fill. This one breaks new ground with a component matured in first-fill Pedro Ximenez butts, married with lightly peated spirit from first-fill bourbon barrels. Releases have come once a year since May 2017, out of the distillery at Thurso in Caithness.

Rich and raisiny from the PX, with brown sugar, dried date and a low curl of peat smoke underneath. Drink it neat at room temperature, water optional. Pair it with a sticky pudding, dark chocolate, or nothing at all.
