Description
Yabby Lake Single Vineyard Pinot Noir comes from the estate vineyard at Tuerong, in the northern Mornington Peninsula.
Robert and Mem Kirby planted the fifty-hectare site in 1998 on a north-facing slope that catches the sun while still taking the sea breeze. Tom Carson arrived as group winemaker in 2008 and divides the vineyard into thirty-three blocks, assessing each separately through the cellar; the estate's 2012 Block 1 was the first Pinot Noir ever to win the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy. The Single Vineyard tier blends across the estate blocks, with a portion of whole bunches, natural fermentation and French oak.
Serve at 15 degrees with duck, venison or mushroom dishes. It develops over ten years.
