Yalumba Antique Tawny 375ml NV

Yalumba Antique Tawny is a mellow, wood-aged Australian tawny in a handy half bottle.

Fortified wine has been part of the Angaston winery's output for well over a century, and the family-owned company still runs its own cooperage, one of very few in the country. This tawny follows the classic Australian method: young fortified wine is laid down in seasoned oak casks and left to mature slowly, gaining colour, nuttiness and complexity as it gently oxidises and concentrates. Older material is blended in for depth, and brandy spirit gives the firm, drying finish typical of the style. The result is amber-tawny with an olive rim, a sign of genuine time in wood, and a palate of toffee, crème brûlée, dried fruit and nuts.

Pour a small glass at cellar temperature after dinner. It sits comfortably alongside sticky date pudding, dark chocolate, or a cheese board with walnuts and dates. Once opened, keep it in the fridge and it will hold well for several weeks.
