Yalumba Rare Aged Tawny 50 Years Old is an exceptionally old Australian tawny drawn from casks laid down over five decades.

Few Australian producers hold fortified stocks this old, and those that do release them sparingly. The wine in this bottle has spent decades maturing in small oak casks at the Angaston winery, slowly concentrating as water evaporates through the wood. Over that time the colour moves from red to deep golden tawny, with the green edges that signal great age, and the flavours shift towards burnt toffee, dark chocolate, Christmas pudding, dried fruit and nuts. The final blend keeps a surprising freshness alongside its intense aged complexity, finishing firm and piquant at 21% alcohol.

This is a wine for slow sipping in small measures. Pour it at cellar temperature and pair it with roasted nuts, a piece of hard aged cheese or simply a good coffee. After opening it keeps well for weeks, and it makes a remarkable gift for a milestone occasion.
