Yalumba Samuel's Collection Eden Valley Roussanne 2024

Yalumba Samuel's Collection Eden Valley Roussanne is a rich, creamy white made from a Rhône variety still rarely seen in Australia.

Roussanne comes from the northern Rhône, where it is often blended with Marsanne in white Hermitage. The Angaston family winery has long looked to the Rhône for inspiration, planting Viognier early and now working with Roussanne in the cooler Eden Valley. The grape ripens late and builds texture more than overt fruit, which suits the region's slow, even season. This release shows chamomile, pear and wildflowers with a river-stone minerality and an oyster-shell note. The palate is soft, creamy and mouthwatering, with a savoury thread that keeps it fresh.

Serve lightly chilled, at 10 to 12 degrees, so the texture can show. Try it with pork loin and apple, scallops in brown butter or a creamy chicken pie.
