Yalumba The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Yalumba The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Coonawarra Cabernet with blackcurrant fruit and cedary oak.

The name refers to the famous cigar-shaped strip of terra rossa soil that runs through Coonawarra, a narrow band of red earth over limestone. That thin topsoil drains freely and pushes vine roots down into the limestone, while the district's cool, maritime climate gives Cabernet Sauvignon its defined, savoury character. The fruit is matured in oak, adding cedar and a hint of mocha to blackcurrant and mulberry. The palate shows violets and mulberries with chocolate and currant, finishing long with powdery tannins.

Lamb cutlets, a peppered steak or a mushroom stroganoff make fine partners at around 16 to 18 degrees. It's ready now and has the structure to cellar well over the medium term.
