Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz 1.5L MAGNUM 2018

Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz in magnum is a large-format release of the winery's small-barrel Barossa Shiraz.

The wine takes its name from the octave, a cask far smaller than the usual barrique, crafted in the family company's own cooperage from seasoned oak. Maturing Shiraz in such small vessels increases the influence of the wood, so the wine is built from the most concentrated parcels available. Barossa Valley vineyards give it depth and generosity, and Eden Valley sites add lift and fragrance. In 2018 that combination gave a wine of red, blue and violet fruits, dark cherry, red liquorice and raspberry, on a balanced, elegant palate. The magnum bottle slows development and suits long cellaring.

Open it for a gathering of eight to ten people. Decant, serve at around 17 degrees and pair with a whole roast lamb, beef brisket or a game pie.
