Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz 6L 2018

Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz 6L is a six-litre showpiece of one of the Barossa's great Shiraz wines.

Few Australian wines are bottled in a format this large, which holds the equivalent of eight standard bottles. Inside is the 2018 vintage of a Shiraz shaped by its time in octaves, small casks made at the family's Angaston cooperage. The fruit combines Barossa Valley depth with Eden Valley freshness, giving a deep red wine with purple hues and aromas of dark red cherry, red liquorice and raspberry, with blue and violet fruit notes. The palate is cool, rich and finely balanced, with the elegance that marks the best Barossa Shiraz.

Buy this for an event to remember: a milestone birthday, wedding or long lunch. It needs careful handling, time to settle upright and a large decanter or two. Serve at around 17 degrees with roast meats and hard cheeses.
