Yalumba The Steeple Shiraz 2022

Yalumba The Steeple Shiraz is an old-vine Barossa Shiraz of focus and precision.

The name comes from the church steeples that punctuate the Barossa skyline, and the wine is drawn from old Shiraz vines at Light Pass on the valley floor. Old vines produce small crops of concentrated fruit, and the Angaston team handles it with a light touch. The wine is matured in long-seasoned oak, which contributes cinnamon and allspice without masking the fruit. The 2022 is deep red with a crimson hue, showing blueberry, violet and liquorice spice, then purple berries, dark cherry and crunchy red fruit on a lively palate that finishes with fine ironstone tannins.

Pour it at around 16 to 18 degrees with a slow-braised beef ragù, lamb shoulder or spiced duck. It will reward cellaring for a decade or so.
