Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache 2024

Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache is a perfumed, textural Grenache from a Vine Vale vineyard planted in 1889.

Growing in sandy soils at Vine Vale, on the Barossa floor, these bush vines have lived through parts of three centuries, which gives the wine its name. Yields are tiny and the fruit is handled gently. The distinguishing step comes after fermentation, when the wine is kept on skins for a very long time; for the 2024 release this post-ferment maceration ran to 373 days. That long contact builds plush texture and a persistent, impressive tannin profile. Aromas of pomegranate, wild redcurrant, raspberry leaf and blood orange florals lead to rhubarb and strawberry on the palate.

Pour it slightly cool, at around 15 degrees, alongside Peking duck, lamb kofta or a wild mushroom risotto. Enjoy now or over the short to medium term.
