Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache Museum Release 2015

Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache Museum Release is a mature, cellar-aged Grenache from bush vines planted in 1889.

Aged Grenache is uncommon, since most is drunk young, which makes this release a rare chance to see how wine from very old Barossa vines develops. The vineyard at Vine Vale has been producing since the late nineteenth century, and its name recalls vines that have grown through three centuries. Held back at the winery, this 2015 now shows brick-red maturity, with cedar and citrus peel leading to red and violet fruits, spice and dark, brooding complexity. The medium-bodied palate is soft and generous, with fresh acidity and fine tannins rounding out the finish.

Drink it now, at around 16 degrees, perhaps with roast chicken and mushrooms, a pork terrine or duck confit. Stand the bottle upright and decant gently if there is sediment.
