Description
Yannick Amirault Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil La Source is a single-parcel Cabernet Franc from the sandier neighbour of Bourgueil.
Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil is a separate appellation immediately west of Bourgueil on the right bank of the Loire, planted almost entirely to Cabernet Franc; its terraces of sand and gravel over a tuffeau limestone base tend to give wines more perfumed and finer-boned than those of its neighbour. Domaine Yannick Amirault works some forty parcels across Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, farmed organically and picked by hand, and is now run with Yannick's son Benoît. La Source is one of the domaine's named Saint-Nicolas bottlings, made in the house manner with indigenous-yeast fermentation, gentle extraction and élevage in tank and used wood rather than new barrel, so the wine keeps the transparency and aromatic lift the sandy soils give it.
Fragrant and medium-bodied with fine tannin, it suits charcuterie, roast poultry, pork and mushroom dishes and is good lightly chilled; serve at around 16 degrees.
