Yokel Grenache 2026

Yokel Grenache is a Swan Valley Grenache raised in concrete egg.

Grenache sends its roots a long way down into deep sandy gravel, which is part of why it copes with Swan Valley heat and gives fruit that ripens evenly, exactly what happened in this vintage. The grapes were hand harvested and destemmed into open-top fermenters, where they sat on skins for ten days, then spent a few months in large concrete eggs before bottling. Concrete gives a slow, even maturation with no oxygen ingress to speak of and no oak flavour, which keeps the aromatics clear. Nothing else was done to the wine.

Red fruits, dried thyme and a faint stony bite, with soft tannin and a clean, savoury finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees, or briefly chilled on a hot day. It goes with barbecued lamb, roast tomatoes, a mushroom pizza, or a plate of jamón.
