Description
Yokel Rosé is a dry Swan Valley rosé made entirely from Grenache.
Eugenio Valenti's family estate, Vino Italia, is the source, and the hand-harvested fruit arrives in immaculate condition. A short spell on skins sets the colour, then the grapes go through the basket press straight into amphora for fermentation and malolactic conversion. From there the wine spends a brief stretch on lees in barrel before being blended in a large concrete egg the winery calls Bacon, then racked to bottle with just a touch of sulphur. Three vessels for one small rosé sounds excessive, but each contributes a different part of the texture.
Pale copper in colour, with red cherry, rosehip and a dry, chalky finish that has more grip than most rosé. Serve it cold, 8 to 10 degrees. Take it to lunch with grilled fish, jamón, a bowl of prawns, or a tomato and burrata salad.
