Description
The broadest bowl in the range, giving a wine the largest possible surface to open across.
Zalto Glas is a family glassworks in Austria's Kremstal, where every piece is mouth-blown by hand and made without lead, the bowls angled to 24, 48 and 72 degrees after the tilt of the earth. The Burgundy glass is built around surface area. The wide bowl exposes a great deal of the wine at once, so its separate components lift and resolve in sequence and the detail arrives with precision rather than all in one rush. Wines that are tightly wound benefit from that, and so do wines that are old and complex, where the point is to miss nothing. Anything young and already open is usually better in one of the smaller Zalto shapes, which hold it together instead of stretching it out. Despite its width the bowl keeps the house angle and the walls stay thin from stem to rim.
Made with Burgundy in mind, though what you use it for is a matter of imagination; supplied as a two pack. Hand-wash in warm water without detergent and dry with a lint-free cloth.
